FRIDAY RACES ARE CANCELLED

September 5, 2008: With the impending HEAVY RAINS and possible STRONG WINDS that are being indicated on the local weather radar, tonight's practice and races have been cancelled. The track tarps have remained in place, and if these are not blown off by the winds, we should be able to hold our scheduled race on Tuesday, September 9. Check this page or our track phone (751-6778) for the latest updates. HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AT THE TRACK ON TUESDAY!!! THANKS TO ALL VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED PREPARE THE TRACK FOR HANNA, AND THAT WE DID NOT RECEIVE A DIRECT HIT!!! AND NOW, IT LOOKS LIKE WE MAY BE SPARED FROM HURRICANE IKE, BUT IT IS STILL A LITTLE EARLY TO BE SURE!!!

TROPICAL STORM / HURRICANE HANNA & FRIDAY RACES

September 4, 2008: The forecast track for Tropical Storm / Hurricane Hanna continues to change, keeping the storm further east of our coast than earlier in the week. If the track stays as is now being shown, and we do not receive heavy amounts of rain or wind, we MAY be able to hold practice and races on Friday evening. This page will be updated on Friday after 4 PM for practice and race status, as well as the track phone (751-6778). Please check back for the latest information.

AND WE STILL HAVE IKE LURKING OUT THERE, AND THEN POSSIBLY JOSEPHINE. WE WILL SCHEDULE TRACK PREPARATIONS AS SOON AS WE CAN DETERMINE IF WE WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE STORMS. THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED PREPARE FOR HANNA, AND TO EVERYONE WHO IS WILLING TO HELP FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!!

TRACK PREPARATIONS FOR HANNA

September 3, 2008: We were able to hold our Tuesday race as planned, and thanks to all of the riders and parents who came out. We will be be at the track tonight at 6:30 to prepare the track to hopefully hold up better from whatever Tropical Storm / Hurricane Hanna brings in the way of rain and wind. Additional tires will be added on the tarps, and some of the large billboard tarps will be placed over some of the jumps to help protect from the rain. Anyone who can come out and help for a couple of hours will be greatly appreciated!! Contact Dale Waldron (813-6180) for further information.

This page and our track phone (751-6778) will be updated later in the week on the status of Friday's race, which seems doubtful based on the forecast track of Hanna. Keep your fingers crossed that we only receive a glancing blow, and nothing more!!! Then there are Ike, and Josephine.........and this is getting old!!!!!

TRACK REPAIRS AND TUESDAY RACE
(AND HANNA STAY AWAY!!!!!)

September 1, 2008: We have made a great amount of progress with track repairs after our work party on Sunday, and if we do not receive any rain damage to the track, we will hold the scheduled practice and race on Tuesday, September 2. MANY THANKS TO OUR PARENT AND RIDER VOLUNTEERS who helped work on numerous washouts, and to add clay to many areas of the track. We will continue to work on other areas in the next few weeks, as the weather permits. Check this page, and our track phone (751-6778), for the latest updates on practices, races, and work parties.

Also, the latest forecasts on Tropical Storm (and possible Hurricane) Hanna show the storm to be just off of the East Coast of Jacksonville on Friday, and whatever rain and wind we might experience will determine whether we are able to hold practice and races on Friday, September 5. We will update this page and the track phone message on practice / races later in the week, as well as to any last minute track preparations for the storm.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR RIDERS WHO ATTENDED THE NBL GRAND NATIONALS, AND WE HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AT THE TRACK ON TUESDAY!!!

TRACK UPDATE AND FRIDAY RACE

August 29, 2008: We have continued to make progress in getting the track back into shape from the damage caused by tropical storm Fay's wind and rain. Many of the areas that had large washouts have been repaired, and clay has been added to areas where it had washed away. Unfortunately, the clay that has been added to the jumps and other areas is still to damp to be ridden, and will need additional time to dry thoroughly. We will not hold a race on Friday, August 29, but plan to be back to racing on Tuesday, September 2, which is much sooner than we thought. A practice / work party may be scheduled over the Labor Day weekend, either Sunday or Monday, and will be confirmed later today. Please contact Dale Waldron (813-6180) for further information, or the track phone (751-6778) for an update. WE NEED ANYONE WHO CAN VOLUNTEER TO JOIN THE WORK PARTY SO THAT WE CAN PRACTICE AND RACE!! LEND A HAND AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR JAX BMX!!!!

LATEST TRACK UPDATE

August 27, 2008: The track surface on the first, second, and third straights have been repaired, and work has begun on the fourth straight. We will be working tonight, and if we make as much progress as we have so far, we may be able to hold races on Friday night (if the weather cooperates!). THANKS TO BRIAN LUCAS, THERESA TYLER, AND VIC & ANGIE LEWIS, FOR THEIR HELP WITH THE REPAIRS. We still have numerous washouts that need to be repaired, and we are trying to arrange for equipment for this. Check this page or the track phone (751-6778) for the latest updates on repairs and Friday's race. HOPE TO SEE ALL RIDERS AND PARENTS FRIDAY. WE NEED ALL VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE AVAILABLE TO JOIN OUR WORK PARTIES TO HELP COMPLETE ALL TRACK REPAIRS. COME OUT AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR JAX BMX!!!

TRACK UPDATE AND WORK PARTY
August 26, 2008: The first two straights have been uncovered to allow the track to dry out, and so that we can possibly begin repairs later today. The first straight held up well since it remained mostly covered, with only a few areas that got wet, and should be able to be raked out. The second straight suffered from the tarp being blown off of the tower double and step-up jump, and most of the clay has been washed off of the face of the jumps. The washout in the tower double is now about 4' into the track, and will need a lot of work to be repaired. The third straight has not been uncovered yet to check the amount of damage, but it will probably need some work to get it back in shape, especially on the rollers and tabletop, since the tarps partially blew off these areas. The fourth straight was uncovered briefly yesterday before the rain, and most of the rollers have clay washed off, wet areas in the bottoms, and several washouts to be repaired. If the rain that is forecast for today (again!) holds off, we will be working tonight in whatever areas we can. Check the track phone (751-6778) later today to confirm the work party for this evening. COME HELP WITH THE REPAIRS SO THAT WE ARE ABLE TO PRACTICE AND RACE AGAIN SOON. JOIN THE WORK PARTY AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR JAX BMX !!!!
UPDATE ON TRACK DAMAGE FROM FAY

August 24, 2008: The track was checked on Friday for damage, and there are many areas that will need to be repaired. The lake in the center of the track had overflowed both the second and third straights, and was up to the second turn. There was also a very large amount of standing water between the first and second straights. The tarp covers had been blown off about 2/3 of the track, and the rain had caused clay to wash off of the faces of many of the jumps (jumps on the second straight and the third straight tabletop are the worst). There are numerous washouts on the edges of the fourth straight, and clay has washed off of many of the rollers. The tower double washout has continued, and and a lot of clay has washed off of the step-up into the second turn. Most other areas are saturated and will need to be able to dry before any work can be done. On Friday night and Saturday morning, the standing water in the center of the track was pumped away, but more water may have accumulated due to the rains on Saturday. The track was recovered on Saturday as much as possible to help prevent any further damage. We will begin to work on the track damage as soon as the weather allows the track to be uncovered to dry out, and so that the full extent of the damage can be determined. WE WILL NEED EVERYONE WHO IS AVAILABLE TO ASSIST WHEN THE WORK PARTIES ARE SCHEDULED. OUR BEST GUESS IS AT LEAST TWO WEEKS WILL BE NEEDED TO MAKE REPAIRS, AND THE MORE VOLUNTEERS THAT ARE INVOLVED, THE QUICKER WE CAN GET THE TRACK BACK IN SHAPE. CHECK THIS PAGE AND OUR TRACK PHONE (751-6778) FOR THE LATEST UPDATES. LEND A HAND AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR JAX BMX!!!
